AI Usage Policy

Our AI Usage Policy aligns the values of the Institute with the responsible use of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), while ensuring respect for intellectual property and the protection of proprietary content.

By adhering to our AI Usage Policy, members can harness the benefits of emerging technologies responsibly. Committing to these principles not only promotes individual excellence but also fosters a culture of integrity, respect, and accountability throughout the organization.

Principles

1

Integrity and Honesty
Members are expected to maintain exemplary standards of integrity and honesty in their use of AI technologies. This includes adhering to all relevant laws and ethical guidelines.

2

Respect for Stakeholders
The use of AI should strive to achieve win-win outcomes for all stakeholders, considering their interests and requirements in accordance with our overarching strategy.

3

Ownership and Accountability
Members are accountable for their use of AI technologies which includes taking responsibility for AI-driven outputs, decisions, and the resulting consequences as well as ensuring due diligence in their application.

4

Commitment to Excellence
AI technologies should be employed to enhance results and drive excellence across all dimensions of the organization, aligning with the goal of not merely being the best but being the best that we can be.

5

Protection of Intellectual Property
Members should consider the provenance of AI systems, ensuring that tools used do not infringe on third-party copyrights or rely on non-consensually sourced data which aligns with our responsibility to safeguard our contributions and those of our stakeholders.

6

Compliance with the Code of Conduct
Members must adhere to the Code of Conduct, avoiding any actions that may bring BEX or its members into disrepute when utilizing AI tools and resources.

Responsible Use of AI

  • Transparency: Members are encouraged to use AI technologies transparently and must disclose the use of AI in instances where it materially influences outputs, decisions, or published content to maintain organizational integrity.
  • Informed Decision-Making: Members should use AI as a tool to enhance, rather than replace, human judgment. Since AI can produce factual errors or ‘hallucinations,’ members must implement validation steps to ensure technical accuracy before reliance, especially in high-impact or external-facing contexts.
  • Fairness and Mitigation of Bias: Members must recognize that AI systems may reflect or amplify societal biases. Proactive steps must be taken to identify and mitigate discriminatory outcomes, ensuring AI-driven decisions align with the Institute’s commitment to respect and integrity.
  • Safeguarding Data: All data used in AI applications must be handled in compliance with data protection regulations, ensuring that personal and sensitive information is safeguarded.

Reporting & Compliance

Members are required to report any breaches of this AI Usage Policy, just as they would with the Code of Conduct. Non-compliance may result in disciplinary actions, including suspension of benefits or expulsion from the Institute.Â
